Welcome to Kenora Ontario.
Located on the shores
of Lake of the Woods, Kenora is the major hub for most communities
in this area.
The population of Kenora
is approximately 18,000 people, however during the summer
months and once the tourists arrive for their summer cottages/cabins
it can and does swell to almost double that.
Lake of the Woods is
an immense body of water with 65,000 miles of shoreline and
15,000 islands. Kenora is at the outflow of this lake which
drains into the Winnipeg River via The Norman Dam. The inflow
is located in Rainy River Ontario and these two dams (along
with others) control the water level of this lake.
We are a modern community
with every major convenience that every major city in Ontario
offers, but our main attraction to those moving and living
here is the relaxed setting, fresh air, our surrounding wilderness
and spectacular recreation that Lake of the Woods offers.
Within our region we
have literally hundreds of smaller lakes which many tourists
fly into over our summer seasons. On Lake of the Woods itself,
we have lodges and resorts for anyone's budget. From small
family operations to large World Class facilities. Each offers
superb fishing for almost every species of freshwater fish
available in North Western Ontario.
Over the years Kenora
has become know as one of Ontario's Premier vacation destinations
and it hosts visitors IN ALL SEASONS from around the world.
Fisherman/woman know
Kenora and Lake of the Woods for it's excellent fishing qualities.
We have at our doorstep one of the greatest bodies of water
in Ontario.
Walleye, smallmouth
bass, perch, lake trout, whitefish, muskellundge all inhabit
LOTW along with other species with walleye, bass and muskie
being the major sought after species often in trophy sizes.
If you are planning
a summer or winter excursion into Ontario's North West, we
strongly suggest you consider Kenora as an excellent choice.
